KOOA Hair Salon

Best Hairdresser in Lisbon: My Top 3

Lisbon has been my home for the last 4.5 years, and in that time, I’ve made it my mission to find the best hairdresser in Lisbon.

Now, I’m not one to believe in sharing an exhaustive list of every single salon out there – that’s just overwhelming and not really helpful for you. Instead, I’m here to share my personal favorites, the spots that have truly stood out to me.

As a guy with medium-length curly hair, I’ve had my fair share of hair adventures, and I’ve learned what makes a great haircut, for both men and women. My girlfriend has played a significant role in this post, offering her insights and also sharing her go-to place for a good trim.

So, whether you’re a local or just passing through, I’ve got you covered with a personal guide to the best salons, and my own personal best hairdresser, based on real, tried-and-tested experiences.

And a little tip: make sure to read until the end of the page, as I’ve saved my absolute favorite spot for last. Plus, I’ve included a salon that comes highly recommended by my girlfriend.

Criteria for Selection

Selecting the top hairdressers in Lisbon goes beyond just a good haircut. It’s about the whole package: the vibe of the place, the skill of the stylists, and how you feel when you walk out the door.

I’ve chosen these salons because they stand out in all these areas. They have a solid reputation, a wide range of services, they excel in being meticulous, providing excellent customer service, at an affordable price, and being conveniently located.

So, let’s get right to it and explore the best hairdressing options Lisbon has to offer.

KOOA Hair #3

Ricardo and Peter are the brains behind KOOA Hair, setting up shop in São Bento. The salon has an intimate atmosphere, but its minimalist design makes everything feel open and bright. They’re big on sustainability here, mostly using natural brands like Organic Way (OWAY), which is PETA approved.

And when it comes to coloring, Ricardo and Peter are the experts. Want a rainbow on your head? They’ve got you. Sky blue hair? Absolutely.

People especially recommend this place for blondes, and Ricardo gets a lot of shoutouts for his work.

Services Offered

KOOA Hair has a broad selection of services you will find in most salons, making it a go-to for all kinds of clients. They do everything from the basics like cuts and styling to more unique conditioning treatments and color treatments.

Expertise of the Stylists

The team at KOOA Hair is top-notch. They bring years of experience and a wealth of training to the table, earning them a well-deserved reputation for excellence.

Customer Experience

I have a few friends that go here regularly and they always speak well of their time at KOOA Hair. The salon consistently goes the extra mile to make sure every client leaves happy, building a base of regulars.

Pricing and Value for Money

At KOOA Hair, the prices are fair, and the quality is high. They strike a great balance, offering top-tier service without an exorbitant price tag, making luxury accessible.

Hair Concept Lisboa
Hair Concept Lisboa

HAIR CONCEPT Lisbon is right in the middle of all the action in the city, but it’s a bit of a hidden spot, located on the second floor of a house. The place has a cool, laid-back vibe, and it’s really comfortable.

My girlfriend, who’s from Amsterdam and knows a thing or two about expensive hair salons, swears by this place. She loves the customer service here, and she says it’s the best spot in town for hair color, without breaking the bank. So, even though it might take a minute to find, it’s definitely worth checking out.

Services Offered

At HAIR CONCEPT, they really know their stuff, catering to just about anything you need. Need a trim or a whole new look? They’ve got you. They handle both men’s and women’s hair, making sure everyone leaves happy. They’re great with curly hair, offer a wide range of coloring options, and can help with hair regrowth. If you’re after a blow dry, some highlights, or a bit of styling, they can do that too. They even do makeup and make sure your hair’s in top condition with quality shampoo and conditioning.

Expertise of the Stylists

The team at HAIR CONCEPT Lisbon really knows what they’re doing. They’ve been around for a while and have a great reputation. My girlfriend went there and she had a great experience. She’s only had her hair cut by one stylist, but she’s heard that all the stylists there are experienced.

Even when she booked an appointment at the last minute, they fit her in, which is awesome. The appointments themselves always go well. They listen to what she wants and do a great job. Her stylist, Elaine, does an amazing job and leaves her hair looking natural and healthy. Everyone there is really nice, and she’s definitely planning on going back. I’m even thinking about trying them out myself next time.

My Girlfriends Experience

My girlfriend has visited this place more than 3 times and every time she leaves HAIR CONCEPT with high praise, highlighting how the team really tunes in to what she wants. They’re great with English, making sure they accommodate any special requests and fully grasp what their clients are asking for. It’s obvious they take a lot of pride in their work.

Pricing and Value for Money

With competitive pricing and exceptional service, HAIR CONCEPT Lisbon offers great value for money. They believe that everyone deserves to look and feel their best, and their pricing reflects that philosophy.

Facto Hair Bairro Alto #1 (My Favourite Salon)

Facto Hair Salon, Bairro Alto
Facto Hair Salon, Bairro Alto

Smack in the lively Bairro Alto, Facto Hair, one of Lisbons top salons, is a unisex establishment that stands out with its blend of style, sophistication, and a dash of Rock & Roll spirit. The salon itself is a sight to behold, setting a chic stage for your hair’s transformation.

It took me a bit to find this gem after moving to Lisbon 2.5 years ago, but it was worth the search. I was on the hunt for stylists trained by Toni & Guy, given my curly hair and past experiences with butchers, I mean barbers, who just couldn’t get it right.

Craving a quick snack? One of my top three bifana shops is conveniently located just around the corner from Facto Hair Salon. Read: A Locals Guide to the Best Bifana in Lisbon: Top 3

Services Offered

While I always go for the standard €39 haircut from Tiago, I’ve noticed that the salon caters well to both men and women, providing all the services you’d anticipate from a high-end salon. With the standard mens haircut you can expect a wash, condition, head massage, cut and style!

Expertise of the Stylists

Thiago, the best hairstylist at Facto!
Thiago, the best hairstylist at Facto!

Facto Hair boasts a crew of top-notch stylists, well-known in the city for their expertise and enthusiasm for hair styling. They’ve truly earned their stripes in the industry. Personally, I always go for a top creative stylist, which sits at the higher end of their price range at €39, but I believe it’s absolutely worth every cent, I always consistently get THE best haircut. For those who appreciate meticulous attention to detail, Tiago is your go-to stylist; he takes immense pride in his work and ensures stellar results every time.

My Experience

I’ve visited Facto for a haircut about 15 times now, and the service has been consistently excellent every single time, from my very first visit to the most recent one. Upon arrival Claudia on the front desk is always so friendly and the wait time is often very short, with a refreshment offered before you reach your chair. If you’re in the mood for some quiet time during your haircut, they also totally respect that.

On the rare occasions when my stylist has been running behind schedule, they’ve given me a heads up call in advance.

It’s just outstanding, friendly and professional customer service through and through. And I can’t forget to mention the music – they’ve got a great playlist of Rock and Psychedelic Rock that really adds to the lively and enjoyable atmosphere.

Pricing and Value for Money

Facto stands out as a high-end salon in Lisbon, and while the prices reflect its premium status by Portuguese standards, it’s quite a bargain compared to what you’d pay in other European capital cities. For the level of stylist expertise and customer service you get, it’s an incredible deal. Back in England or Holland, I’d easily be shelling out €80 or more, but at the Bairro Alto branch of Facto, it’s just €39 for a mens haircut.

Plus, they’re really upfront about their pricing; you can check their current rates anytime at www.factohair.com/price-list.
